1995 G.I. JOE MORTAL KOMBAT MOVIE EDITION SHANG TSUNG This is the same mold as the unreleased Budo Ninja Force set that was never released and was used for Mortal Kombat, so this could be considered Budo V3. He is in excellent condition, leg screws are silver and his joints are very tight, very little paint or playwear. I have included 4 pieces of what looks like Shao Kahn armor, I have added a slit in the back of his helmet and cut the waist armor so it can sit on the waist . The figure stand pictured is included. The two gray Black Major aftermarket claw weapons look great and fit well. Shang
Tsung includes three accessories: a large bladed weapon that was
included with many other figures, He is missing the hooked, double bladed sword, and includes the original
unique helmet. It's likely that the Ninja Commando Budo would
have included a dark green weapon tree full of various martial arts
weapons that were common with Ninja Force figures along with some
newly sculpted parts. The weapons included with Shang Tsung
were not part of that tree and were chosen specifically for this
release. It is likely that the helmet,
though, was designed to be included with Ninja Commando Budo.
It is unique to this Shang Tsung figure and is a fun addition that
gives the figure more life. It is well designed and fits the
head very nicely. Please
look at the multiple pictures of every angle I have provided, in high
resolution, to make your own decision on the grade of the item - good
luck finding another sale where this much detail is disclosed! Mortal
Kombat action figures, based on the hit video game by Midway
Entertainment, were released as a new toy line in 1994 by Hasbro.
Many of the old G.I.Joe molds were used to bring the characters of
Mortal Kombat into action figure form - thus they look extremely
similar to the G.I.Joe action figures. However, the Mortal Kombat
figures and vehicles have no reference to G.I.Joe anywhere on the
cards, packaging, or in their promotion. In
the summer of 1995, New Line Cinema released a movie version of
Mortal Kombat. As a tie-in with this film, Hasbro did some re-working
of a few figures and rereleased a new set of Mortal Kombat figures.
The packaging was nearly the same, except for a sticker that read
"Special Movie Edition." However, the figures were not all
the same. These
figures are not considered part of the G.I.Joe line and probably
should be thought of as close cousins to the G.I.Joe line. However,
the movie edition of Shang-Tsung is a figure that no G.I.Joe
collector should be without. Budo's
father was an orthodontist in Oakland, his grandfather was a farmer
in Fresno, his great-grandfather was a track-worker on the Rocky
Mountain Line, and his great-great-grandfather was a fencing master
in one of the last great samurai warrior families of Japan. On his
eighteenth birthday he was given the family swords and a haiku
written by his ancestor: 'The great sword unsheathed / Glitters
brightly in the dark / Unseen and at rest.' "The man has a
fifth-degree black belt in Iaido (the art of the live blade), and
similar rank in three other martial arts. He could have even higher
rankings if he didn't spend so much time working on his chopped,
pan-headed Harley and listening to heavy metal." The
Ninja Commandos are one of the more famous groups of unproduced Joes.
Historically, the rank just behind the Manimals in terms of
notoriety. This is mostly due to the fact that they were very
close to production. And, like the Manimals, exist in full
production versions: just very few of them. The set was
designed as a 5 figure group featuring Road Pig, Knockout,
Stormshadow, Flint and Budo. Of the group, Budo made a lot of
sense. He had a martial arts background (though as a Samurai)
and was in need of an update. Of the figures in the set, Budo
is also the most famous, but for different reasons. If you
look at the figure below, he may look familiar. The reason is
that the entire figure figures was used to make the Mortal Combat
Movie Edition Shang Tsung. Unlike Flint and Road Pig (whose
parts were used elsewhere, but not as entire figures) Budo's full
mold was resused. Shang Tsung is nothing more than a Budo
repaint. And, as a result, has become a rather sought after
among G.I. Joe Collectors. For those familiar with Shang
Tsung's appearance, though, the Budo figure is a bit of a contrast.
The figure actually bears some resemblance to the 1993 Mail
away Budo figure. The teal, black and red isn't as good of a
color combo as the maroon and brown of the Shang Tsung figure.
Neither figure fully paints the details on the mold. The black
body of this unreleased Joe, though, obscures much of the work that
went into sculpting the pieces. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ LISTING DETAILS: I Combine Shipping by starting with the HIGHEST SH QUOTE; it is then an additional $1.00 Per Figure. *Two or more vehicles are based on actual shipping weight PLEASE DO NOT PAY IMMEDIATELY AND LET ME KNOW THAT YOU WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OFFER SO THAT I CAN CONTINUOUSLY SEND UPDATED INVOICES SHIPPING & HANDLING FOR THIS LISTING IS free FOR USA – ITEM WILL BE PROTECTED!
